pls don't take any of my actions as a direct attack on you or an attempt to stalk or intimidate you in any way, pls accept my sincerest condolences for what happened to your little boy, tragic no matter what the type of dog involved. I admire your determination to soldier on inspite of what's happened, with no mallous toward you or support for pitbulls i just urge you sincerely to re focus on any/all breeds/types of dogs that attack?? even if BSL gets in all over the world what about the victims of non pitbulls, i worry that dogbite is contributing to the ever escalating death toll, 30 already this year, I have not written this message to you to try and goad you into some sort of pissing contest i sincerely want to save all the children and not just the pitbull victims?? i've seen all your blogs and am reasonably certain you run most of the fb pages if not you admin on them and i feel if we all team up and focus on all deaths together we can save more lives??

Absolutely the victims of non-pit bulls matter to me. But if you take out the pit bulls, (a breed that is just as much the victims in this due to the inhumane "sport" of dogfighting and mass shelter killings) there would only be (and I don't say ONLY lightly after losing a child) on average 4 Americans killed per year. Not even scraping the surface of the serious injuries that I have seen first hand on children. Not even scraping the surface of the emotional damage long after the attack. Not even talking about YOU and YOUR fucking asshole pages that you guys run against VICTIMS of pit bull attacks....I'm not even GOUGING the surface when we're talking about how many other pets these purpose bred fighting machines kill every year Terry.

Let me ask you a question. Why are breeds that were bred BY HUMANS to kill other animals considered acceptable in modern society? When the local dog track in my area was open, the shelters were over run with Greyhounds. Don't get me wrong, I used to love going to the dog track with my wife every other Friday night. Mostly because there ain't shit else to do around here..... But it really is inhumane to the dogs. Thus, society agreed and now there isn't a dogtrack within 500 miles of here. The dog track closed, and of course it made sense that the shelters seen an increase of grey hounds coming thru the doors. We used to see them up for adoption in front of Walmart and the grocery stores. GREAT DOGS!.....

Now let me ask you another question Terry, if I may? After telling you the story of the dog tracks, greyhound racing and overpopulation after the tracks closed....Can you ever remember a time in your life when dogfighting was considered acceptable by modern society? If not, then why are the shelters overpopulated with pit bulls that nobody wants?

I think you are buying into your pit bull apologists/victim bashing/blaming pals. None of us want to "round up all pit bulls and kill them." BSL does not do this. The only reason someone would come and take your dog out of your house is if you wen't following the law or if your dog did something really bad. I just don't understand why both sides can't agree on this aspect of the debate. After all - NO BIRTH = NO KILL!!!

And another thing. I don't understand what's so hard to understand about my son's death....IF they were NOT pit bulls, he would've still been alive. The fact that they WERE pit bulls, is why they did what they did, how they did, for as LONG as they did.

2014 Dog Bite Fatality: Dog Bite Injuries Contribute to Florida Woman's Death

Sebring, FL - On April 30, Jessica Dawn Norman, 33-years old of Sebring was found naked and dead in a ditch near the back of her property, according to the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office. Police and autopsy reports released this week stated she had both alcohol and methamphetamine in her system and puncture wounds on her body consistent with animal bites. Her death was attributed to methamphetamine intoxication with canine bites listed as a contributing factor.

The bite injuries from the dog or dogs occurred before Norman died, according to the Highlands County Sheriff's Office report.

Investigators believe the culprits were three aggressive pit bulls that were known to have been loose nearby on April 28 -- the day Norman was last seen alive. The dogs escaped their kennel and fenced-in enclosure on April 28. Highlands County Animal Control euthanized three pit bulls owned by Lisa Hodge over the course of the investigation. Highlands County Animal Control Officer Ralph Smith said they were the most aggressive dogs he had dealt with in 11-years.

Six weeks earlier, a Highlands County deputy shot and killed Floyd Gene Hodge, the husband of Lisa Hodge, after he stood in his front yard "spraying bullets on four homes with an AK-47 rifle." Neighbors that called in about the shooting activity alerted deputies about the couple's aggressive dogs. Though the dogs were known to be dangerous, the sheriff's office declined to file charges against Hodge, as she kept the dogs in an enclosed space and was unaware they had escaped.

"The Sheriff’s Office spent considerable time investigating whether the dogs contributed to Norman’s death, the reports indicate." - Highlands Today

Investigators tried to prove through DNA evidence that Hodge's dogs were the ones that attacked Norman, but were unable to find sufficient DNA evidence in the samples taken from the dogs and Norman's body wounds and clothing. "The hairs (found on her body) were determined to be canine in origin, but were unable to produce a DNA profile for any comparison," the report said. Sheriff's investigators still concluded that Hodge's three pit bulls inflicted the bite injuries.

“Based on the fact that Lisa Hodge’s dogs were documented at large on the same date Jessica Norman was last seen alive, acting in what has been described as a ‘very aggressive,’ manner towards several individuals, it is believed that Jessica Norman was attacked by the same dogs. To further substantiate this theory, canine hairs located on the body of Jessica Norman were consistent with the colors of these dogs. Also, the close proximity of where Jessica Norman’s body was located in reference to where Lisa Hodge’s dogs apparently exited the fenced property, supports this theory. - Highlands County Sheriff’s Office report

Contributing Cause of Death

When dog bite injuries contribute to a human death and severe injuries have been inflicted, these deaths are included in DogsBite.org fatality statistics. The last case occurred in 2012 after letter carrier Diane Jansen sustained multiple injuries in a dog attack and simultaneously suffered a stroke. The medical examiner's report listed the cause of death as hemorrhagic stroke due to hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with dog bites as a contributing factor.

In the 315 fatal dog attacks recorded by DogsBite.org since 2005, less than 1.5% fall into this category. Other cases include the 2011 death of 47-year old Jennie Erquiaga (San Bernardino, CA). The coroner's office confirmed her death was due to "physiologic stress from multiple dog bites" in addition to underlying medical issues. In 2010, 65-year old Ethel Horton (Lee County, SC) suffered severe bite injuries in the attack and underwent a heart attack. She died on the scene.

Excluded from DogsBite.org fatality statistics are deaths resulting from "non bite" injuries.

The following is a response by Greg Hoffman, Watertown, to an article that appeared in Walworth County Today. 
Also attached to this article is the 74 page police report of the Dax Borchardt case.  

Dear Ms. Plevak,
I read your article regarding Daxton and Jeff Borchardt (“Education effort arises from tragedy”,http://www.walworthcountytoday.com/article/20140228/WC/140229750 and it concerns me that only certain aspects of Mr. Borchardt’s story are presented. That all the facts need to be considered is important because the brand of canine “education” preferred by Mr. Borchardt is neither objective or based in facts. I had the experience of meeting him and Ms. Ilwicki (the babysitter in the incident) when they came to Watertown to support an attempt to get pit bull terriers banned by a member of the city council. This would have severely impacted many dog owners in the area and it took months of work by many concerned citizens, mainly dog owners of all breeds, to keep his influence out of our city.

That the attack occurred and was horrific in nature cannot be argued, but one significant question that has yet to be answered by either law enforcement or the media is about the factors contributing to the attack. What was the true nature of environment that these dogs were in and how did that environment contribute to the incident?

I’ve obtained a copy of the compiled police, EMS and Animal Control reports from that incident and would be happy to share them with you.  (Documents are now attached below)  I understand you’re busy and it’s a large document of about 75 pages, but it’s important to draw your attention to three items in the reports.

1. On page 6, line 7 the report by Detective Michael J. Banaszynski states that the owner of the dogs (Iwicki) stated that “both dogs together were fed one cup of dog food in the morning and one cup of food in the evening.” For dogs of that type and size this small quantity amounts to a starvation diet, essentially ½-cup twice daily. This is in a best case scenario– if the dogs were fed in the same area and not separately it’s likely that the dominant dog would eat most of the food, leaving the other dog even hungrier.
2. On page 20, in the third paragraph of the report by deputy Cory Newman, two inmates at the Walworth County Jail who apparently knew Borchardt (“DJ Bogart” is Jeff Borchart’s name in his DJ business) discussed physical and mental abuse by the owners of the dogs.
3.  On page 23, in the third sentence of the fourth paragraph of the report by Deputy Daniel Long, he states that he observed stacked cages of rabbits in the house that the dogs jumped at while he was waiting.

"Bait" animals are animals used to test a dog's fighting instinct; they are often mauled or killed in the process. Many of the training methods involve torturing and killing of other innocent animals.[13] Often "bait" animals are stolen pets, puppies, kittens, rabbits, small dogs and even stock (pit bulls acquired by the dogfighting ring which appear to be passive or less dominant).[14] Other sources for bait animals include wild or feral animals, animals obtained from a shelter, or animals obtained from “free to good home” ads.[15] The snouts of bait animals are often wrapped with duct tape to prevent them from fighting back and they are used in training sessions to improve a dog’s endurance, strength or fighting ability.[16] A bait animal’s teeth may also be broken to prevent them from fighting back.[14] If the bait animals are still alive after the training sessions, they are usually given to the dogs as a reward, and the dogs finish killing them.[13]”

I bring these points to your attention because the use of bait animals is a technique used to train fighting dogs, and slow starvation and the competition for limited food only serve to build aggression further. I found the above information in Wikipedia, which admittedly isn’t a journalistic source however there isn’t much information available on the training of fighting dogs and it is important to bring this up because of the circumstances.

Without further investigation it will never be known if these dogs were being trained to fight, but based on what I’ve read in the police reports, the environment these dogs were in was similar to one which would be found where dogs are trained to fight. When I met her in Watertown Ms. Ilwicki didn't strike me as the 4H type that would be raising rabbits for the county fair, so why did she have multiple cages of rabbits in the house and semi-starved dogs?

What’s worse, why would a responsible parent drop off a child in a daycare environment with these elements? It’s evident that Mr. Borchardt and Ms. Ilwicki and her boyfriend (who was listed as the actual owner of the dogs and yet apparently never interviewed by law enforcement afterwards) knew each other before the incident so it’s likely that he was aware of the environment the dogs were in. If this is the case the guilt must be a horrible burden to bear.

While it appears that this burden has been harnessed to a purpose, the fallout of his actions has impacted the lives of many others in negative ways. He has named my wife, among others, as one of the responsible parties in the death of his son in a public forum, making her a potential target for hostile actions. Ironically, on this fairly lengthy list assigning blame for the death of his son, his own name is absent. His stated mission is to ban certain types of dogs entirely – we were preparing to sell our house and move in the event that the attempted breed ban he was advising took effect.

In your article his efforts appear well-intentioned but caution is advised in what appears to be an implied endorsement - being a dog-bite victim does not translate into becoming a dog bite expert. I take issue with many “facts” he has on his web page and believe that spreading misinformation does not serve the public interest. If you have questions please let me know.

EDIT: Aww..guess this was a fake email. It wasn’t vetted so my bad. Doesn’t change the fact that the disgusting meme was posted by Balduc and Bogart is trumpeting his “TRIUMPH” at catching us in a “Lie” or in cahoots with some other Facebook page or some nonsense. Whatever. Nobody is perfect. Difference is? We’ll admit when we get fooled.

A few days ago one of the “Breast Cancer Awareness” sites on Facebook posted this lovely picture. For those who DON’T know..that isn’t a baby. It’s a doll. It’s a cute picture. That’s all it is. And it’s been around for YEARS which is why we know it’s a doll.

Chris Balduc, who we already talked about here decided to drag out this old wonder of his and post it in the comments section under the picture.

These people have NO limits, no boundaries. There is nobody they won’t harrass, try to intimidate, use and exploit for their “cause”. It’s one of the most disgusting displays I have ever witnessed. Do you think the parents of this little girl would be happy to know that her picture is being used to harrass Breast Cancer patients (victims)? I’m guessing no.

And the people from the Breast Cancer Awareness site don’t either.

Chris Balduc, you and your friends wonder why nobody takes you seriously. This might be a big part of the equation.

We’re Back!

Well, well, well, seems some of the Anti-Pit-Bull community checks in on us and reports inaccurate facts not only about Pit Bulls but about this blog. Yes we were on hiatus, that is true. But the FBI had nothing to do with it.

Funny how Billy the Bartender feels this blog is “amateurish”,”fabricated”, and “libelous”. Well I have to disagree. You see, Billy the Bartender has said, done, and is doing exactly what we have reported. Oh sure, some of the puppets can claim that screenshots are altered, taken out of context, yada, yada, yada, but the fact we provide what exactly what they write, feel, and promote. WICL has no agenda but to report what goes on day in and day out.

To accuse WICL of being libelous, well we would have to be providing “untrue” lies. The fact of the matter is, we are not. It is a known fact that ALL of the screenshots used in our blogs are what was written, no alterations, nothing changed, black and white. We have no reason to change anything.

As far as the FBI getting involved, sorry Jon B., we aren’t doing anything illegal. Perhaps your group of puppets should take a step back and asked yourselves, are we doing something illegal? The Pro Pit Bull community doesn’t go around encouraging poisoning dogs, encouraging shooting Pit Bulls, promoting “getting armed” , the list is endless. The Pit Bull community also doesn’t feel the need to HACK people’s accounts, like many of Colleen Lynn’s supporters claim they can do and will do to our side.

So Billy and Jon can claim what they want about WICL. We are here, we are back, and we aren’t going anywhere, sorry guys, that is a FACT.

Merritt Clifton and Animal People Magazines Hidden Agenda

In his most recent statement  Clifton states that has served in many related advisory capacities to organizations.

So, let’s examine a few of those organizations.
In March of 2004, Clifton’s story, “How to tell the Best Friends Animal Society from the cult who built Kanab” appeared on Animal Liberation Front DOT com (ALF).  In the story, Clifton shares the history of Kanab Utah and it’s polygamist roots then later references that history when stating, “They [Best Friends Animal Society] need only look across the desert to the sprawling unpainted housing complexes of the Mormon polygamists still in the vicinity to see what authentic cults look like.”

In 2002, according to Clifton, Best Friends computer guru Stephen Hirano at Christmas surprised ANIMAL PEOPLE with a new MacIntosh computer.

This story appears on Animal Liberation Fronts website, a national eco-terrorist organization identified in testimony before the House Resources Committee by the FBI‘s James F. Jarboe Domestic Terrorism Section Chief of the Counterterrorism Division at the FBI in Washington, DC on February 12, 2002. ALF has criticized Clifton as well for his narcissistic methods, tagging him as an “obstructionist” due to his repeated tactic of attacks on any and all advocates and activists that disagree with his opinion.  Additionally, Clifton was promoted as controversial by ALF in 2003, yet by 2004 they were sharing his Best Friends article with a more favorable appearance.  Did Clifton make amends with ALF?

Since the publishing of his Best Friends’ article, Clifton’s close ally and friend, Alexandra Semyonova has continuously blasted Best Friends Animal Society with accusations that the organization started as a cult.  At her prodding, a number of the newer members blindly parades the bunk on numerous blogs geared to undermine the very organization that had at one time supported Merritt Clifton’s self-published ANIMAL PEOPLE Magazine.  So, wouldn’t that make Clifton and Animal People magazine just a little tainted in the Dogsbite.org members eyes? 

Afterall, they always repeat the mantra “Follow the Money!”  Seems Clifton had received some funding in the past from BFAS….by his own admission.

Semyonova is the same friend of Clifton’s that belabors the whole Ku Klux Klan connection with pit bull type dogs, declaring that the typical pit owner is white-trash, southern redneck, meth-addicted, dog-fighting loving inbreds.  She seems extremely hung up on the Ku Klux Klan angle, and not surprisingly, Clifton gave a very blustery fairytale-esq share of his opinion of the Klan’s connection to dog-fighting and pit bulls when he addressed Afro-American, Hispanic drug gangs and drug addicted white rural redneck’s ownership….on a BFAS forum.  A truly eye-opening work of, well, either fiction or insanity, and certainly worth a read.

This was his attempt to explain how the term racism was not applicable to “dogs” as it pertains to human beings strictly.  Oddly, this rule seems not apply when a human-based behavioral term can be applied to dogs as long as it benefits their personal agenda.  For instance, murder and psycho just to give a small example of Dogsbite.org and Cliftons own methods of anthropomorphism.  Dogsbite.org has taken it even a step further assigning made up terms, such as piticide in their Maul Talk Guide.

Clifton’s 25-year run in the animal welfare world has made him some enemies, in fact more enemies than friends probably.  And even his personal relationships have suffered the wrath of his self-obsession.

He founded Romania League in Defense of Animals (ROLDA) in 2006 and serves as U.S. Trustee/Secretary for the organization, setting up the 501c3 charity in the U.S. He solicited donations on behalf of ROLDA including $20,000. from one individual and promoted the organization at international conferences.  He provided assessment of two separate ROLDA shelters in 2009 which was a direct conflict of interest as he also served as a ROLDA Trustee.

What was Clifton’s objective for upstarting a Romanian organization?  He lives in Washington state here in the U.S.

According to private emails provided by his [now former] wife and long-time partner and co-founder at Animal People, Kim Bartlett, it was his love of Dana Costin that seems to have derailed Clifton the greatest.  Until meeting Costin in 2004, Clifton had managed to present himself to the public as an expert with no prejudice, no influence by others.

Even his own rag proclaimed to be unbiased, and appeared seemingly unassociated based on his public attacks of organizations, individual animal welfare advocates and in defense of his statistics.

Animal People statement: “ANIMAL PEOPLE is the leading independent newspaper providing original investigative coverage of animal protection worldwide,founded in 1992. Our readership of 30,000-plus includes the decision-makers at more than 10,000 animal protection organizations.We have no alignment or affiliation with any other entity.”

It wasn’t until Clifton’s personal dirty laundry was aired, albeit somewhat quietly among a few of  us ‘old timers’ in the animal welfare community, that his unbiased vision was truly debunked however.  Our next release will delve more into the personal life of Merritt Clifton.

Dogsbite.org Claims No Pit Bulls in U.S. Military….True or False?

While many military bases elected to regulate ownership of specific types of breeds of dogs in 2009, and many more than just pit bull type dogs are targeted, the military still recognizes these American symbols as stable, dependable, loyal and trustworthy for military purposes.

Dogsbite.org Making Victims of Victims?

We’ve touched on the exploitation of victims that Dogsbite.org members have displayed.  But today we have another (dis)advantage point to share.

What happens to the victim of a serious dog attack that doesn’t want to partake in the Dogsbite.org groups?  As we have covered in other articles, some are demonized the same as the alleged pit bull or its owner when the victim doesn’t blame the dog and join the witch hunt.

But what about the victim of a serious dog attack that just wants to focus on healing?

We’ve had stories repeated to us over the years, and have witnessed it personally behind the closed doors of Dogsbite.  The way the group members berate the victim or the victims family for not taking up their cause is best outlined in the Michael Cook case, or the little dog that prompted Arizona’s dangerous dog law known as Fabian’s Law, or Charles Hagerman’s case.  While Dogsbite.org does post the stories as though the families support them, it has been witnessed that when the victim or family choose to manage their grief and pursue other avenues to accomplish change, Dogsbite.org’s member in fact do not provide support.

Michael Cook‘s family suffered the devastating loss in 2011 after their mixed breed dog attacked him.  Because the family suggested the dog was in pain after a neuter procedure Dogsbite.org and it’s members had little compassion for them or regard for Mr. Cook.

After using Mr. Cooks story to further the image of dangerous pit bulls, even though the breed of the dog was undetermined by DNA testing, the First (and only) Victim’s Walk planning was underway when he was again mentioned by newer members who didn’t realize their was more to Dogsbite than what one might see at just a glance.

Members not only mocked the family and the victim, but escalated to name-calling.  Like the old “telephone game” the story grew from speculation and name-calling to something more libel.

Fabian’s Law champion’s Richard and Sally Andrade were chastised by Colleen Lynn for going away from breed-specific-legislation to breedless dangerous dog law that would hold any type of dog owner accountable.  During the planning of the 2012 Walk in Tucson, the Andrades left a long and detailed message on one of the many promotional blogs.  It prompted a heated rebuttal by those more seasoned members including Colleen.

Perhaps the best example of victim victimization is the case of Charles Hagerman of Chicago.  Police leaked a photo of Mr. Hagerman that washighly criticized by his family.  Even though his family’s outrage and plea to have the photo removed from the internet was well publicized by media, Dogsbite.org’s members decided to use the graphic image as a Facebook meme.

NOTE: Whoiscolleenlynn.com blurred the image in effort to protect the Hagerman families request. We are displaying this image strictly for the purpose of bringing the real DOGSBITE.ORG nature to light.

In the most recent example of Dogsbite.org’s members victimizing victims, a mother reached out to Jeff Borchardt to ask him to remove an image of her daughter that depicted wounds from a dog attack.  The mother also contacted Dogsbite.org requesting the organization’s assistance to have the image removed from the site and pages Borchardt has created.

Dogsbite.org’s answer?  Forward the personal plea on to Borchardt.  The email , along with the name and personal contact information was then promptly shared by Bordchardt with other members.

EMAIL PLEA FOR ASSISTANCE TO DOGSBITE.ORG:
After spending some time on your website, I admire and respect the efforts put into your cause. Pit bulls attacks had not been on my radar since my southern California city has strong ordinances regarding specific dog breeds and dogs in general. My husband has been a mail carrier for many years so I do understand the dangers of dog attacks especially since his job puts him at higher risk then most.

My daughter became victim to a pit bull attack less then two weeks ago while visiting a friend’s home. Her face was severely damaged and she will required extensive reconstructive surgery. Both the physical and emotional trauma has been extremely difficult. Since she is a young adult, I fear that it will be a slow recovery process for her.

The reason that I’m writing is that my own cause and profession has always been victim’s rights, specifically the rights of sexual assault victims. I am hoping that you can address the issue of pit bull attack victims and their rights to heal and recover in a private way and some of the psychological processes they may be experiencing. Unfortunately, there are groups out there that reference your website, but are exploiting and demonizing victims as they try to further their agenda.

I had taken a photo of my daughter’s injuries and posted it on Facebook for only relatives and close friends to see. The photo appeared on her Facebook page as well with limited viewing options. This photo was not publicly posted on Facebook or anywhere else. Somehow a person got access to this photo who knows the dog owner. This photo was then posted on The Pit Bull Propaganda Machine Revealed Facebook page for public viewing. My daughter is not only devastated at how horrific her face looks, but now has to deal with her picture being posted publicly.

After numerous requests by myself being the author of the photo, friends, family and my daughter to remove the photo, she was quickly demonized and accused of being a pit bull supporter on this website. When a person goes through a traumatic event like this, there’s a process similar to grief. Time is required to process it all such as handling the physical injuries, legal processes, emotional healing and go on living not to neglect financial and family obligations. It’s a very similar to the process a sexual assault victim goes through.

Ironically, the father of the victim in your feature story on Daxton Borchardt has been the biggest offender. He reposted my daughter’s frustrated request that she sent him via message to take her photo down, reposted the pictures of her injuries again without permission from myself or her and then proceeded to mock her and her supporters that also requested the picture be taken down to respect her privacy. As a mother, my primary concern is my daughter and her well being. She needs time to come to terms with what has happened to her before being the face of a controversial issue.

Would we demonize and exploit a victim of sexual assault though we know she may not want to immediately condemn her perpetrator? I encourage you to read the comments on their page https://www.facebook.com/groups/240277562791489/ and consider writing a piece on encouraging support for pit bull attack victims. This whole experience has been really negative, but I’m hoping through your good work you can help educate people on the psychological healing that is critically important for pit bull attack victims. My hope is that my daughter will share her own story/pictures with you when she is ready.

I appreciate your concern. I am the mother of the victim. This occurred while she stopped in to visit a friend on her way to a family Christmas dinner. She doesn’t have frequent contact with the owner of the dog. Neither her, nor I live locally to the dog owner. I have never met the dog owner but trust the authorities will make the best determination on what needs to happen to this dog. She is an adult and all I can do as a mother is protect her privacy, advise and support her as she tries to recover. Ultimately though, she makes her own decisions.

Regarding the re-posting of the photos, I have a large network of support of friends including law enforcement and my husband works for the federal government. We are trying to locate and have the pictures removed as they are located. Having these photos put up on sites without her being comfortable with that or giving consent is just an additional stress that she really shouldn’t have to deal with right now.

I think all FB users know that once we ‘upload’ a picture; we have no control over where it goes. Sorry you are having to deal with this.

Even more astonishing is Velvet N Dewayne Rouse’s curiosity to see the picture, still no concern from a Dogsbite.org member for the victim or her families wishes.

Was this ever a online report? I would like to see what picture is so bad she is doing all this….I think she is full of it!!!
